CIAD Autumn Exchange How to Wear Your Happy. Watch!

karen arthur November 9, 2017

We did it!

Thank you to all who were able to make it to The London College of Fashion at the end of October to hear my research findings regarding Black women, mental health and fashion for The Costume Institute of the African Diaspora (CIAD). It was my first actual talk and, although nerve-racking, I enjoyed it immensely once I got going. Many turned up having heeded our request to Wear Your Happy and what an uplifting audience they were! I particularly loved the participants conversations about childhood memories playing 'dress up' and how clothing made us FEEL. It was an inspiring evening and some interesting questions were raised that simply begs further research. Watch this space!

“I was seeing lots of information about…using fashion and making conscious clothing choices to uplift your spirit but I wasn’t seeing me…The research isn’t there because we’re forgotten.”
— Karen Arthur. Fashion Designer and Reddskin founder.

'How to Wear Your Happy' is now up on YouTube in all its glory!  The entire talk is just over an hour long but it is split conveniently into eight manageable parts. The first part is here and you can continue watching on my channel. I hope you find some of it inspiring, helpful, informative or even funny (not always intentional!) Make yourself a drink , grab some popcorn and give it a watch.

Please share your thoughts and comment below.  We would LOVE to hear from you!
